Roadtrip Day 11 – Kunnunnura to Darwin – Sat 27th Sept
September 30, 2008
Distance Driven – 920 km
First thing we got up – 6am – still bloody roasting. Had the car packed and were about to go, just went to brush our teeth and didnt the bloody ranger see us. STUNG. Had to pay
Drove on to Katherine. Had a bit of lunch there in Subway then on to Darwin…the car overheated. Had to let it rest a while. We got out coz the car was too hot, then got molested by crazy flies outside. Rock and a hard place, rock and a hard place.
Got to Darwin anyway – tropical humid climate – bit like florida….
Couldnt find a campsite so tried to get into a hostel, no joy…all booked up. Booked in for the follwing night anyway. Had dinner in Shennanigans and went on a campsite hunt. Found one eventually. Got some random girl just to swipe us in the barrier, and just set up. Showered and all and in bed by 11….

Roadtrip Day 10 – Broome to Kunnunnura – Fri 26th Sept
September 30, 2008
Distance Driven – 1050km
Up at 8.30, mildly hungover.
Packed up…
Subway for brekkie followed by some internet. We thought we were only driving to Fitzroy Crossing so weren’t in any rush.
Left Broome anyway. Got to Fitzroy Crossing – ABSOLUTE DUMP ABBO TOWN. Abo’s everywhere, asleep on the path…DRIVE ON….
Got to Halls Creek – ABSOLUTE DUMP ABBO TOWN, even worse then Fitzroy…DRIVE ON….
Saw a load of Cyclones in the desert…odd…wasnt even windy!!
It started to get dark, which is the first time we would have driven in the dark. This is when it gets dangerous coz all the wildlife tends to wander on the road – a kangaroo in the windscreen is the last thing we want. Saw millions of Wallabies, Roos, Cattle, HUUUUGE eagles.
Got to Kunnunnura round 10…all campsites were shut. Had to sneak into one and just set up in the dark….
FUCKING ROASTING by the way
In bed by 11…
Roadtrip Day 9 – Broome – Thurs 25th Sept
September 30, 2008
Stuck around Broome again…
Got a load of jobs done in the morning – laundry, cleaned the car, internet, washed up the dishes….
Hit the beach by lunch time.
Got home and went straight on the goon. Got hammered. Dyed my hair blonde too!!
Its a lot nicer and less yellow now after being in the sun….
So anyway we were supposed to go to a bar called oasis, its good on a thursday. Could not find it. Not for the life of us. So just went to some place called divers bar. It was fine.
In bed hammered by 1.
Roadtrip Day 8 – Broome – Wed 24th Sept
September 30, 2008
Stayed in Broome for theĀ day.
We were on the beach by 9.30 and stayed til sunset. Let me tell you – it was fuckin HOT. 40 degrees. Had to get in the sea every 20 mins so I wouldnt die.
Got lunch in woolies. Just a sambo, also filled a bag with ice and beers.
Met Alann on the beach who we were in the hostel with in Perth – crazy guy. Loads of hippies about.
Went home and just had a few beers as we were told nothing happens on wednesdays in broome!
In bed by 10!
Roadtrip Day 7 – Karratha to Broome – Tues 23rd Sept
September 30, 2008
Distance driven – 890km
So we got up at 6 in the morning, rudely awakened by some crazy loud stoopid parrots!! Had a big drive ahead of us today so wanted to leave early anyway.
We stopped in Port Hedland for petrol and supplies. That was a proper oil/mining town. Industry everywhere. Saw these train which were at least a mile long – i tried count the trailers but only got to 140. Saw the biggest pile of salt ever too!! Roadtrains everywhere on this drive. Have some cool videos of us overtaking them to the top gun music!
Stopped at a roadhouse in the middle of nowhere again. It was called the Sandfire. It was soooooooooooo hot.
Saw a few of these there…these are huuuuuuge…..termite nests…
And some eagles….
And here’s a small roadtrain at the sandfire place….
Got to Broome eventually. Long long drive. Pitched a tent in the Cable Beach Caravan Park. Went to see the sunset on cable beach – wooooahhhhh
We decided to go out for dinner in the Sunset bar, got a 35 dolla steak and had a few beers….
Home in bed knackered by 9.30. Driving and heat kills ya….
Roadtrip Day 6 – Exmouth to Karratha – Mon 22nd Sept
September 30, 2008
Distance Driven – 622km
Got up at 8.30 and packed up. we were checking the oil and I accidently slammed the bonnet on the oil cap and it smashed to pieces – OOPS. Had to find a garage and get a new one!! On the road eventually though…
We stopped in the middle of nowhere at a roadhouse to get petrol and lunch. Next thing this bloke flies in and geets petrol…look what he landed in the petrol station…
We drove on to Dampier anyway which the old dutch couple told us to, absolute dump. The place was a shithole, nothing there so we drove on to Karratha…on the way in we saw this…which was weird…
Turns out Karratha wasnt much better than Dampier. It had a McDonalds though!! So there for dinner. Went looking for an internet place – NONE!! Its a huge mining/ oil town so everybody is there to work – not holiday. There was no wind which was weird so pitched tent easy enough in the Pilbara Caravan Park.
Goon/Guitar and bed for 10….
Roadtrip Day 5 – Coral Bay to Exmouth – Sun 21st Sept
September 30, 2008
Distance driven – 317km
Got up at 8. Packed up and then went and had some internet time. We went for a walk around the beach then – its such a cool place. Looking back now – we should have stayed another night.
Quite a short drive to Exmouth, thought it was gonna be as cool as Coral Bay – NOPE. We wanted to swim with the Whale Sharks but turns out we were 3 months late, the season was finished – oops… priced whale watching – 85 quid – see ya later. The girl told us you can see them for free from a lighthouse.
Pitched a tent in the site. It wouldnt stay up coz it was so windy. Had to change sites!
Went and rented Snorkel gear and went to Turquoise Bay. Saw some rays and a load of reef fish – here’s the bay ….
Then went back up to this lighthouse to see these bleeding whales…no joy – it was kinda hazy. Great sunset from the lighthouse though….
Went back to the campsite – had noodles again for dinner then drank goon and played guitar – getting a bit of a routine going here!! We talked to some old dutch couple who were beside us. They were nice. They told us to go to Dampier instead of Karratha for our next stop…
In bed by 9.30!! LOSERS
